POWERCHINA volunteers visit primary school in Nigeria

Updated: November 26,2018

Volunteers from POWERCHINA's representative office in Nigeria visited the China-Assisted Model Primary School NYANYA to offer condolences on behalf of the company on Nov 23.

The primary school is located in the New Karu district of Abuja. It has eight elementary classes and three kindergarten classes, with a total of 452 students.

It was built with the assistance of Chinese enterprises. Last July, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria helped build a new classroom at the school.

The principal, Ms. Dude, warmly welcomed the volunteers. Student representatives performed songs and local folk dances to welcome the visitors.

Rao Jianjiang, deputy representative of POWERCHINA's representative office, delivered a number of books to the school. The volunteers distributed donated school supplies to students and taught them some simple Chinese songs.

Local employees from the POWERCHINA representative office played keepy-uppy with children. Engaging teaching styles and lively interactive games managed to hold the attention of the students.

Volunteers felt a warm satisfaction as they watched children with smiling faces make use of the donated school supplies.

Ms. Dude said that since the school was founded in 2011, the number of students has grown from 85 to about 450. The school's expansion was supported by the Federal Capital Government and the Chinese government.

She said that the teaching environment and teaching quality at the school is currently the best in the eastern suburbs of Abuja. Many children can speak basic Chinese, perform Chinese dances and sing Chinese songs.

Since entering the Nigerian market, POWERCHINA's construction team in Nigeria has always believed in being "warm, caring and helping", and has actively fulfilled its local social responsibility.

They have helped decrease local unemployment and engaged in activities such as hardship assistance, charitable donations, public welfare assistance and voluntary repairs.
