Ugandan Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the Karuma hydropower project when he visited its construction site on Feb 15.
The Prime Minister and his accompanying party visited the dam, the water inlet, the underground powerhouse, the main transformer room, the tail chamber, and the owner's camp, listening carefully to reports regarding specific situations of the project's various parts.

The Prime Minister pointed out that after Karuma hydropower plant starts generating, it can provide Uganda with sufficient power supply, help lift the bottleneck that restricts Uganda's economic development, and enhance the confidence of the government in attracting investment.
He said that despite the delays in the project, he was still very satisfied with its progress.
He paid tribute to the project staff and thanked them for their contribution to Uganda's infrastructure development, which has made Ugandans optimistic that their country is moving towards becoming a middle-income country.
The accompanying officials also said that they were deeply impressed by the progress of the project.
