Alpha Conde, President of Guinea, spoke highly of the Souapiti hydropower plant while inspecting the project site on March 20along with the minister of Guinea's Ministry of Energy and a representative of the World Bank Group (WBG).
The Souapiti hydropower plant, located on the Konkoure River, is a project constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 3 Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA.

The president toured the plant, inspected the generating units, and also visited the Kaleta Hydropower Station, another energy project of Sinohydro Bureau 3 Co in Guinea, which has been put into operation.
The WBG representative said he was impressed by the construction achievements, noting that this inspection has helped the World Bank better learn about Guinea's confidence, resolution, and achievements on economic development.
Since the World Bank Group approved Guinea's Country Partnership Framework (CPF) program, the group has offered Guinea low-interest loans to support the country's diversified development of its economy.

The Souapiti and Kaleta projects will provide a driving force to Guinea's industrial development, while also showcasing China's manufacturing strengthen around the world.
In addition, they serve as models for China's Belt and Road Initiative and cooperation among Chinese state-owned enterprises in exploring overseas markets. The Souapiti hydropower station features a record-high amount of concrete pouring, over 1.7 million cubic meters in a year, while the Kaleta hydropower plant has won the 2018 Luban Prize (Overseas Projects).
