POWERCHINA's Sinohydro Corporation Limited and Huadong Engineering Co. signed DBO (design, build, and operate) and gravity pipeline construction contracts for the Rewa River Water Supply Scheme with the Water Authority of Fiji on April 11.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama.

The Prime Minister said in his speech that the Rewa River Water Supply Scheme is an important project to improve the livelihood of Fijian people and improve their quality of life.
POWERCHINA has rich experience in international management and core leading technologies. Bainimarama said he was looking forward to the next cooperation with POWERCHINA and the early completion of the project.
The Rewa River Water Supply Scheme is the third project signed by POWERCHINA in Fiji after the Nadarivatu Renewable Energy Project and the Wainisavulevu Dam Heightening Project.
The project is located in the Suva-Nausori region, which has a population of approximately 273,000.

Local residents get 95 percent of their domestic water from Waila and Tamavua water plants. However, the water source of the two water plants is greatly affected by the season. They are basically at full capacity, which means they cannot guarantee the reliability of urban water supply.
The implementation of the water supply scheme will reduce the region's dependence on the two existing water plants, enhance urban water supply security, improve people's livelihoods, and promote local economic development.
