Lao PM praises POWERCHINA-built Boten Special Economic Zone

Updated: April 16,2019

Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith praised the Boten Special Economic Zone undertaken by POWERCHINA on his personal Facebook page on April 12.

"The Boten Special Economic Zone is gaining modern development. In the future, it will probably become a bigger city than the capital Vientiane," he wrote.

The Boten Special Economic Zone is a fruitful achievement of POWERCHINA's active response to the Belt and Road Initiative and is a landmark project for economic and trade cooperation between China and Laos.

POWERCHINA has attached great importance to the project since it started construction. It has dispatched an experienced management team to the construction site.

Facing customs clearance difficulties, lack of materials, transport constraints, poor weather conditions, and many other unfavorable factors, the project management team advanced the construction of Phase I and Phase II with high standards and strict requirements. The team focused on quality, cost management, and standardization on the premise of ensuring construction safety.

The total construction scale of the first phase of the project is about 169,784.7 square meters. Among them, the No. 6 building consists of a 26-storey hotel and a 12-storey apartment. It is 122 meters high and is the tallest building in Laos.

The construction area of the second phase is about 298,523.36 square meters. The construction project includes plots A1, A2, C1, and C5, covering apartments, shopping malls, and hotels. The buildings, which integrate the unique ethnic cultural elements of the Indo-China Peninsula with a modern style, can be used for investment, commercial residence, leisure, and vacation.

To date, the first phase of the project has been fully finished. The plot A2 of the second phase, as the first cross-border stop of the China-Laos Economic Corridor, has also been fully completed. Construction work on the remaining three plots is in full swing.

After completion, the project will effectively promote the sustained and rapid development of the local economy.
