Yan Zhiyong, chairman of POWERCHINA, met with Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, president of Mozambique, on April 25 during the president's visit to Beijing for the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held from April 25-27.
Yan expressed gratitude to the president for the Mozambique government's support and trust. He gave a briefing on POWERCHINA's capability and strength in planning, design, construction, investment, and operation in the multi-energy power generation sector. He also spoke highly of Mozambique's development under Nyusi's leadership.
Yan noted that Mozambique is located in the key area of East and South Africa, and boasts rich water, solar, and wind, resources for complementary power generation. He expressed hope for further cooperation and communication between the two sides in the future.
POWERCHINA has long been developing the Mozambique market, participating in the investment, construction, and operation of the hydropower station in Mozambique's Tete province, as well as striving to transform the province into a regional energy base.
Yan also expressed condolences for the Mozambican victims of Cyclone Idai and detailed the company's efforts to aid and donate to the disaster area. He added that POWERCHINA will utilize its rich experience in infrastructure construction to help with the post-disaster reconstruction.
In addition to introducing the country's various resources for power generation, the president praised POWERCHINA for its contribution to Mozambique, as well as East and South Africa. He expressed appreciation for Yan's concern to the people in the disaster affected area and for POWERCHINA's reconstruction work.
He pledged that the Mozambique government will offer full support to POWERCHINA in the development and construction of hydropower projects in Tete province in the future, and also looked forward to POWERCHINA's participation in the post-disaster reconstruction.
