Sichuan section of world's first mountain high-speed railway opens

Updated: June 17,2019

The Sichuan section of the Chengdu-Guiyang High-speed Railway, which was built by POWERCHINA's subsidiary Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co, opened to traffic on June 15, becoming the first bullet train in southern Sichuan province.

The railway starts in Chengdu and ends in Guiyang, passing through Meishan, Leshan, Qianwei county, Yibin, Changning county, and Xingwen county.

Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co is responsible for the No 3 section, which stretches 33.38 kilometers from Jianwei county to Yibin county.

The No 3 section includes 86 bridges (excluding two single-track bridges), 13 tunnels, one station, 100 roadbeds, 46 culverts, and two inverted siphons.

Since construction began in 2013, the company has been actively carrying out construction management work. In September 2016, it completed the acceptance of the comprehensive demonstration section in advance. In December of that year, it completed the construction work of the main body of the section.

With a total length of 632 km and a design speed of 250 km per hour, the Chengdu-Guiyang High-speed Railway is known as the world's first mountain high-speed railway, as well as China's first tourism high-speed railway due to the scenic spots it passes on its route, including Huangguoshu Waterfall, Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Leshan Giant Buddha.

After its completion, it will effectively link the Chengdu-Guiyang Economic Corridor, benefiting more than 36 million people along it.

After the Sichuan section is open to traffic, it will take only 79 minutes to travel from Chengdu to Yibin. It is expected that the Chengdu-Guiyang High-speed Railway will be fully opened to traffic at the end of this year. By then, it will only take three hours to travel from Chengdu to Guiyang.
