POWERCHINA Chairman Yan Zhiyong thanked the Myanmar Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar for their trust in his group.

He said Mandalay and Bagan are two of Myanmar's top tourist destinations. POWERCHINA will strive to build a landmark project in the country, while respecting its local cultures, customs, laws and regulations, as well as protecting the natural ecological environment, he added.

POWERCHINA entered Myanmar's market in the 1990s and has participated in the survey and design of more than 60 percent of its hydropower projects, providing power planning consulting services to the Myanmar government.

It has undertaken the construction of power supply projects with installed capacity of about 2,300 megawatts, completed the laying of more than 7,000 kilometers of fiber-optic communications cables and been involved in the upgrading and reconstruction of the Yangon Circular Railway.

Its construction projects cover such fields as hydropower, gas power generation, photovoltaic power generation, wind power, power transmission and transformation, communications infrastructure, housing construction, mining and railway engineering.

Officials said they had made important contributions to promoting Myanmar's economic and social development.
