Suriname President visits POWERCHINA-built solar power project

Suriname President Desi Bouterse visited the microgrid solar power plant built by POWERCHINA Jiangxi Electric Power Construction Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, on March 11, when he highly praised the efforts of Chinese group to ensure progress during the construction period.

President Boutse expressed his gratitude to the POWERCHINA project team in Suriname. He urged the project department to make further efforts to ensure the smooth implementation and completion of the project, so as to provide locals with reliable 24-hour domestic electricity, to improve their living standards.

The following day, Suriname’s Minister of Natural Resources also visited the project. He highly praised the company for overcoming the adverse effects of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic and ensuring the quality of the construction progress.

Initiated by Suriname Ministry of Natural Resources, the project aims to improve the collective life of inland villages in Suriname, to provide a continuous and reliable power supply in areas without electricity and to solve the power supply problems of villages along the Suriname River.

POWERCHINA Jiangxi Electric Power Construction Co supplied a modular microgrid hybrid system power supply design solution for the project and took the lead in implementing microgrid photovoltaic construction with two villages along the Suriname River as pilots.

The company signed an engineering procurement construction contract for the project on Sept 13, 2019 and started construction on the foundations on Sept 20.

Officials said the project is expected to be completed in April this year.
