Malaysian oil refinery, petrochemical project handed over

A new oil refinery and integrated petrochemical plant in the city of Johor Bahru, capital of the state of Johor in Malaysia on June 22 received the final handover certificate signed by China's Sinopec, the general contractor of the project.

The handover marked the contract completion of the project's No 3, No 5 and No 6 sections undertaken by subcontractor Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA .

The project is currently the largest petroleum refining project in Malaysia and the first overseas petrochemical infrastructure project undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 8.

Located in the Iskandar Special Economic Zone of Johor, the southernmost point of the Malay Peninsula, it includes the construction of an oil refinery with a daily refining capacity of 300,000 barrels and an integrated petrochemical plant with an annual output of 3 million metric tons.

As a civil engineering subcontractor, Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co was mainly responsible for civil construction, underground pipeline installation, on-site asphalt roads, drainage ditches and foundations.

Since the start of construction in March 2016, the company ensured that the project safety, quality, schedule and costs were controlled and progress was smooth, receiving high praise and recognition from Sinopec.

The smooth completion of the project has established a good image for Sinohydro Bureau 8 in the international petrochemical industry and is of vital significance to the company's future development in petrochemicals industry.
