POWERCHINA wins bid for UHV power line project in Chile

POWERCHINA won the bidding on July 10 on a 500-kilovolt ultra-high voltage (UHV) power transmission and transformer project in Chile.

The contract was for 36 months and is worth $40.98 million, involving the expansion of the 500kV Lo Aguirre substation and the Alto Jahuel substation, as well as the replacement of 44 kilometers of power transmission lines.

Chile's largest power transmission company, Transelec, which controls 10,000 kilometers of transmission lines and serves about 98 percent of Chile's population, awarded POWERCHINA the contract.

As one of the major achievements of POWERCHINA in the South American power transmission and transformation market, the company spokesman said that winning the bid for the project once again demonstrated the level of quality and the technical strength of its corporate brand.

He added that the contract with Transelec would have a positive and far-reaching impact on POWERCHINA's further expansion into the Chilean power market.
