On July 31, POWERCHINA signed a contract for the construction of a ring road in Zalau, a town located roughly 550 kilometers northwest of the Romanian capital of Bucharest.
This is the first design and construction project officially undertaken by a Chinese-funded engineering company in Romania.

The signing ceremony was attended by Romania's minister for transport, infrastructure and communications, Lucian Nicolae Bode, who stated that he believes POWERCHINA will complete the project on schedule and meet rigorous quality standards.
The minister added that Romania hopes to enjoy further cooperation with POWERCHINA in the future to jointly realize the development of the country.
The project is being supported by the EU Large Infrastructure Operational Programme and has an estimated construction period of 30 months.
Once completed, the four-lane highway will stretch for 5.5 km, with five viaducts and two bridges across multiple valleys. The expressway will have a speed limit of 60 to 80 km per hour.
The infrastructure project will improve the local transportation network, further economic growth and offer new development prospects for Chinese-funded enterprises in Romania.
