Kuwait Az-Zour South Phase-III Power Plant starts operating

Updated: September 16,2020

The Chinese-built Az-Zour South Phase-III Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Kuwait started commercial operations on Sept 4, which signified the completion of the project's construction, debugging and trial operations.

The 262.5-megawatt plant was built by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, under a standard engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.

It was the first project undertaken in Kuwait by POWERCHINA, which is the first Chinese company to enter the lucrative Kuwait EPC power plant market.

During construction, the project team worked hard to ensure its smooth progress, overcoming challenges including a tight schedule and scarce local resources.

Despite difficulties posed by the novel coronavirus pandemic, the team pulled out all the stops to guarantee construction progress while focusing on COVID-19 control and prevention. In the process, the plant won warm praise from the project's owner.

In the future, the team of workers will continue at the site with some finishing touches, to further promote POWERCHINA's brand image in the region and its expertise in infrastructure.
