Victor M Mundende, managing director of owner ZESCO Limited -- Zambia's state-owned power utility -- said the hydroelectric power station would change the energy structure of the country by supplying 750 megawatts of power to its national grid.
He said it would help Zambia alleviate power shortages caused by climate change and enable it to take step towards the vision of the country becoming a regional power trading center by 2025.
Mundende also expressed his gratitude to POWERCHINA for its hard work and cooperation with all sides.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic at the start of 2020, the project department had strictly implemented epidemic prevention measures at all levels. It had implemented closed management and equipped workers with sufficient epidemic prevention materials, in order to ensure smooth progress at the construction site.
The dam for the Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro Power Project is a roller-compacted concrete gravity dam with a height of 130.5 meters, a maximum storage height of 129 meters, a maximum storage capacity of 84 million cubic meters and a total installed capacity 750 MW.
