Construction starts on China's first deep-sea offshore wind power project

Updated: December 28,2022

Construction on the Wanning 1 million KW offshore floating wind power pilot project started on Dec 19 in the city of Wanning in South China's Hainan province, which is funded and built by POWERCHINA.

It is China's first large-scale, deep-sea offshore wind power project, and is of great significance in improving the country's key technical capabilities and promoting technological progress and industrial upgrading in the field of deep-sea wind power development.

The project will be developed in two phases. The Phase I, with an installed capacity of 200,000 KW, is to be completed and connected to the national electricity grid by the end of 2025.

The Phase II, with an installed capacity of 800,000 KW, will be in full operation by the end of 2027.

On completion, the project will generate more than 4 billion kWh of clean electricity every year.

Driving the project forwards, POWERCHINA plans to accelerate the expansion of China's entire offshore wind power industry.
