On Feb 6, two 7.8 magnitude earthquakes hit Turkey with a direct impact of 20 kilometers, causing heavy casualties and property losses, but three hydropower stations built by POWERCHINA came through the devastation unharmed.
The three plants are the Feke-I, Feke-II and Karakuz hydropower stations, located in Adana Province in Turkey – only 200 kilometers away from the epicenter of the first 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
So far, the main structures of the three stations are in good condition and are operating normally, providing continuous power for earthquake relief work.
The Feke-I hydropower station is equipped with two 16.2 MW mixed-flow power generation units, which officially started commercial operations in June 2012.
The Feke-II hydropower station is equipped with two 35 MW mixed-flow units. It officially started operating in December 2010.
The Karakuz hydropower station has two 40.2 MW six-nozzle impact units and the two units were successfully connected to the national grid for power generation in July 2015.
During their construction, POWERCHINA gave full play to its technical advantages, combined Chinese solutions with European standards and focused on the quality of the projects, promoting improvements to the levels of project management.
