Karuma Hydropower Plant in Uganda to begin generating power

The first unit of the Karuma Hydropower Plant in Uganda, built by POWERCHINA, was successfully launched on March 9, moving closer towards being put into operation and generating power.

With a total installed capacity of 600,000 KW, the plant is a key project for the country's 2040 development plan.

After put into operation, it will become the largest power generation facility in the Uganda, effectively improving its current power shortage issues.

The annual power generation of the power station is about 4.07 billion kWh, which can save about 1.31 million metric tons of raw coal and is expected to reduce the country's electricity price by about 17.5 percent.

POWERCHINA organizes free clinical treatment in Uganda.

Not far from the plant is the Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda.This 3,840-square-kilometer park is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelopes.

"From the initial design to the actual construction, the project has taken environmental protection into account in all of its processes" said a local civil engineer.

The project has not only improved the local ecological environment, but also created a large number of local jobs and trained a large number of professional technicians and managers.

POWERCHINA donates to a local primary school in Uganda.

In addition, POWERCHINA has actively undertaken social responsibilities within the area. It has dug wells and repaired roads for local residents free of charge, carried out free clinical treatments, and donated to build primary schools. These have gained the enterprise a good social reputation in the local area, and established a high-quality Chinese corporate brand image.
