POWERCHINA has built over 10 water desalination plants with sophisticated core technologies in Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which are now producing more than 3 million cubic meter of fresh water per day.
Through the advanced technology, POWERCHINA has desalinated seawater into fresh water, relieving local residents of their water shortage problems.
Work gets underway at the Saudi Arabia Rabigh Phase III seawater desalination plant.
The Saudi Arabia Rabigh Phase III seawater desalination plant constructed by POWERCHINA is located in the port city of Jeddah. The seawater from the Red Sea is pumped into the water-intake pump room through a pipeline over 400 meters long.
After a series of technical processing, it is converted into fresh water and supplied to over two million households in major Saudi cities, including Jeddah and Mecca.
The Saudi Arabia Rabigh Phase III seawater desalination plant wins numerous awards.
As the first large desalination project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise overseas, it is the largest single desalinating project in the world, setting a Guinness World Record for single-unit water production capacity of 600,000 cu m per day.
Additionally, it won numerous awards, including the 2022 Global Water Intelligence Desalination Plant of the Year and the 2021 Economic Excellence Award in the Mecca Province of Saudi Arabia. It is also the first desalination project to win the Muse Design Award.
The plant came into commercial operation on Dec 22, 2021.
During the construction, more than 3,500 jobs were provided locally, contributing approximately $200 million to the local GDP and driving Saudi economic growth.
In the United Arab Emirates, the Abu Dhabi Taweelah desalination project undertaken by POWERCHINA with an EPC model is currently the largest reverse osmosis desalination project under construction in the world. After completion, the project's daily production of fresh water will reach 900,000 cu m.
The Abu Dhabi Taweelah desalination project is under construction.
In addition, POWERCHINA has undertaken domestic desalination projects and the expansion of desalination plants on islands, with a total daily water production ranking first in the world.
With the goal of high-standard sustainability and benefiting people's livelihood, POWERCHINA will continue to provide its solutions to solve the shortage of water resources in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
