The Liyuan Hydropower Station project on the Jinsha River and the Niulan River-Dianchi Lake Water Replenishment project designed and constructed by POWERCHINA recently won the 20th Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, according to the China Civil Engineering Society.
The two projects are the only two water conservancy and hydropower engineering projects to win the prize this year. To date, POWERCHINA has 33 projects that have won the prize.
Initiated in 1999, the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize is an important award in the fields of railways, transportation, water conservancy, as well as large-scale public and civil construction. It is also the highest award for scientific and technological innovation in the field of civil engineering in China.

The Liyuan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River is one of the key projects in Yunnan province's 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10). It has a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kW.
Since the first unit began operating, the station has sent more than 74.154 billion kWh of clean energy, which is equivalent to using 22.35 million metric tons of standard coal, reducing 61.4 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The station has made remarkable achievements in dam deformation control, seepage control, and panel crack prevention, which haselevated the key technologies of hydropower generation to a higher level.

The Niulan River-Dianchi Lake Water Replenishment project mainly consists of the Deze Reservoir, a dry river pumping station, and water transmission lines.
Designed to divert 572 million cum of water per year, the project has fully realized the functional goals of emergency water supply and flood control for Kunming, capital of Yunnan.
In addition, the project has realized its ecological civilization project goals by maintaining the integrity of the original surface vegetation water system and carrying out the protection of aquatic organisms.
Moving forward, driven by green and low-carbon development, POWERCHINA will continue to improve its independent innovation capability and core competitiveness to further the company's high-quality development.
