Senior officials and representatives from Laos and POWERCHINA attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the 600 MW Monsoon Wind Project in Laos on April 26.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Laos to mark the commencement of the 600 MW Monsoon Wind Project, an endeavor undertaken by POWERCHINA, the prominent global leader in energy solutions, on April 27. Saleumxay Kommasith, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Laos, gathered at the event, signifying the significance of this remarkable milestone.
Located in South Laos, the Monsoon Wind Project is the first of its kind in the country, also the largest overseas wind project undertaken by POWERCHINA. The company is responsible for the construction of a 600 MW wind farm, five booster stations and the 500 kV transmission lines.
Upon completion, this pioneering cross-border new energy project will play a pivotal role in transmitting electricity to neighboring Vietnam, thereby alleviating the persistent electricity shortage experienced in Central Vietnam.
Furthermore, the Monsoon Wind Project is expected to yield an exceptional reduction of 35 million metric tons in carbon emissions throughout its lifecycle. This remarkable feat will firmly establish Laos as a trailblazer in promoting energy transition and fostering sustainable practices within the global community.
Addressing the distinguished attendees at the ceremony, a senior Lao official expressed optimism about the project's transformative potential for Laos, heralding a new path of wind power generation in the nation.
The official emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to providing full support to the Monsoon Wind Project, while also applauding POWERCHINA for its undertaking in spearheading this remarkable venture that is set to become a benchmark for new energy projects throughout Southeast Asia.
