So far, the Nam Ou River Cascade Hydropower Station and the Nam Ngum 5 Hydropower Station in Laos, undertaken by POWERCHINA, have generated electricity exceeding 17 billion kWh, over 1.16 billion kWh this year, a year-on-year growth of 12.66 percent.

That has dramatically helped alleviate North-central Laos' electricity shortage in the dry season and provided green energy support for the China-Laos Railway's operation and local economic recovery after the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Nam Ou River Cascade Hydropower Station in North Laos's Phongsaly province is the first overseas project planned and constructed by Chinese enterprises. The station, with an installed capacity of 1.27 million kW, has generated an average annual electricity of about 5 billion kWh since its operation in September 2021.

The Nam Ngum 5 Hydropower Station, the first project invested in by POWERCHINA in Laos in the BOT way, went into operation in December 2021. It has an installed capacity of 120,000 kW and an average annual electricity generation of about 500 million kWh.

The two projects all won the Lao National Order of Labour. Moreover, the Nam Ngum 5 Hydropower Station is the first overseas project to make POWERCHINA benefit from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

During construction, POWERCHINA guaranteed the stations' operation in safety and stability.

Efforts were also made to fulfill the company's social responsibilities, including sharing knowledge and management experience in meteorology, water conditions, and disaster prevention, adding jobs to drive local economic development, and providing training for local talent, which were affirmed by the local community.
