A ceremony for the operation of the Dadin Kowa 40MW Hydroelectric Plant, undertaken by POWERCHINA, was held in Nigeria on May 19. Suleiman Hussein Adamu, Minister of Water Resources, and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State, attended.

During the event, Suleiman said in a speech that the plant is Nigeria's first hydroelectric project built in a BOT way and the country's fifth largest hydroelectric plant. It will provide stable power to the northeastern part of the country.

He also highly praised the technical and operational capabilities of POWERCHINA.

Muhammad noted that the successful completion of the project had a positive impact on the region's economic growth and social progress, and thanked POWERCHINA for creating jobs for locals and improving locals' technical skills during the construction progress.

The plant was connected to the grid on Dec 31, 2019 and began operating on Jan 7, 2020. As of this April, the plant had generated approximately 400 million kWh of electricity, with annual utilization at 5,800 hours.

The project has not only won praise from the local government and media, but has also won a series of domestic prizes in its field.

The success of the project enhanced POWERCHINA's reputation in Nigeria and laid a solid foundation for the company to expand its renewable energy business in the country and throughout Africa.
