Julius Maada Bio, president of Sierra Leone, attends the groundbreaking ceremony.
On June 2, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Sierra Leone for the lottwo section (Matru Jong) of a rural bridge being built by POWERCHINA.
Julius Maada Bio, president of Sierra Leone, attended the ceremony with his wife. He also delivered a speech in which he noted that the bridge is a major effort to improve quality of life in Sierra Leone.
Bo and Moyamba districts, located on either side of the Jong river, have also attached great importance to the bridge, as manual cable ferries were previously the only way to cross the river. In addition, the rise in water level during rainy season worsened the situation.
"The government will provide the necessary support for the construction of the bridge. We hope that POWERCHINA can complete the project as soon as possible to benefit locals," he noted.
On April 3 this year, POWERCHINA signed the contract with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Sierra Leone on the second and third lot sections of the project. Later on April 17, the president attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the third lot section.
The bridge will link Bo and Moyamba districts, reducing the travel time and facilitating travel for local residents. It will also effectively promote the development of market and community exchanges between the two districts, improving local agriculture, education, health and social services.
