The third unit of the Karuma Hydropower Plant in Uganda, constructed by POWERCHINA, was successfully connected to the grid and generated electricity on June 12. This was another significant milestone for the project after the first unit on March 22 and the second unit on May 1.

The unit will now enter a seven-day trial operation period.

Karuma Hydropower Plant is the largest of its kind in Uganda, costing $1.69 billion. It has a single unit capacity of 100 MW and an installed capacity of 600 MW, which will increase the country's electricity capacity to 1,878 MW, nearly 50 percent higher than before, after all six units are put into operation.

The transmission and transformation line project consists of "four stations and three lines" with a total length of 379 kilometers, the longest ever for power transmission in the country.

As a model for cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Uganda, the project is expected to further promote mutual benefits and win-win cooperation between the two countries.
