POWERCHINA receives the International Safety Award from the British Safety Council for its UAE Wind Power Project.
POWERCHINA recently received the International Safety Award from the British Safety Council for its UAE Wind Power Project, signifying that the project has stood out from nearly 1,000 other global projects and ultimately won the most prestigious award of the 2023 International Safety Awards–the ISA Distinction.
The International Safety Award is one of the most authoritative and internationally influential safety management awards. Its purpose is to recognize organizations from various industries across the globe that have made outstanding contributions in the fields of occupational health, safety management, and welfare.
The UAE Wind Power Project, developed by Masdar, is the first wind power project executed by POWERCHINA in the UAE. It holds significant pioneering and symbolic meanings in the UAE as well as the entire Gulf region.
The project has a total installed capacity of 117.5 MW, consisting of 23 GW-155 model 4.5 MW wind turbines and 14 MW of photovoltaic power.
The 23 wind turbines are distributed across four dispersed construction sites–Sir Bani Yas Island, Delma Island, Sila, and Al Halah.
Transporting large wind turbine equipment not only requires overcoming difficulties such as the dredging of shipping channels and the modification of docks, but also needs to overcome the challenges like steep and large slopes in mountainous terrain.
Despite these challenges, POWERCHINA completed the project safely. It not only gained high recognition from the local government, property owners, and supervisors, but also set a record of one million safe man-hours for the project.
