Indonesian President Joko Widodo inspects the Amman Copper Smelter Project.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently inspected the Amman Copper Smelter Project, which is being built by POWERCHINA.
He was accompanied by senior officials including Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordination; Pramono Anung, the Cabinet Secretary; Arifin Tasrif, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; Erick Thohir, the Minister of State-owned Enterprises; and other business officials.
They visited the project management staff living area and the construction site to get a detailed understanding of how the project is progressing.
Widodo expressed confidence that the project will be completed by mid-2024. Once in operation, it will have an annual production capacity of 900,000 metric tons of copper concentrate, which will drive the development of the copper mining industry and boost employment.
The copper smelter project will play a vital role in the post-pandemic reconstruction of the Indonesian economy and society, which is why the Indonesian government considers it a top priority, he said.
On May 23, POWERCHINA won the bid for the main civil engineering project to build the first section of the Amman Copper Smelter project in Indonesia, officially entering the country's construction market for the smelting industry.
