Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif awards POWERCHINA during the ceremony.
On August 7, a recognition ceremony for contributors to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)'s shared prosperity, part of the 10th-anniversary series of celebrations for the CPEC, was held at the Prime Minister's Office in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif awarded 29 Chinese and Pakistani companies for their contributions, with POWERCHINA awarded for building the Qasim Port Coal-fired Power Station.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the initiation of CPEC. As a crucial pilot project under the Belt and Road Initiative, the corridor adheres to the spirit of the Silk Road, yielding fruitful results for both sides.
Shehbaz expressed his gratitude in his speech to the Chinese government for its strong support in constructing CPEC and said he appreciated the contributions made by Chinese enterprises to Pakistan's economic development over the past decade.
He also highlighted the significant achievements of the corridor's construction over the last ten years, promoting regional connectivity, trade, openness, and prosperity. The corridor has created thousands of job opportunities and brought enormous economic and social benefits to the people of Pakistan.
The Qasim Port Coal-fired Power Station is the first energy project implemented under the CPEC and also the largest overseas investment project of POWERCHINA.
It is hailed as Pakistan's "No.1 Project" and caters to the electricity needs of over 4 million households in the region.
The project has received awards such as the "Outstanding Achievement Award", "Energy Outstanding Contribution Award" and "Environmental Excellence Award" from Pakistan, and the "Public Diplomacy Award" from the Chinese Embassy.
