Officials and representatives from Laos and POWERCHINA attend the donation ceremony.

In order to assist the flood relief and post-disaster reconstruction efforts for affected residents in Laos, POWERCHINA donated 600 million Lao kip($30,360) to the National Disaster Management Committee of Laos on Aug 16.

Sonexay Siphandone, the prime minister of Laos, attended the donation ceremony and delivered a speech.

He expressed gratitude for the generous donation from POWERCHINA, and highly appreciated the outstanding contributions that POWERCHINA has made to the socio-economic development and improvement of people's livelihoods in Laos over the long term.

POWERCHINA's act of kindness demonstrates the social responsibility of Chinese enterprises, conveying hope and courage to people in the disaster-affected areas, and fully reflecting the deep friendship between the peoples of China and Laos, he added.

Since the end of July, due to the influence of monsoon rains, several provinces in Laos have experienced continuous heavy rainfall, leading to severe flooding in some areas. This has resulted in many houses collapsing, farmland being submerged, and roads being destroyed. The livelihoods of the affected residents have also been severely impacted.

In the face of this natural disaster, POWERCHINA took proactive action, mobilizing various resources and calling on employees to donate funds and goods to the disaster-stricken areas in Laos, showing their compassion.

The donated funds this time will be used to assist with post-disaster reconstruction.
