POWERCHINA, serving as a leading enterprise in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and a vital force in global infrastructure connectivity, has undertaken over 20 railway and urban rail transit projects in more than 13 overseas countries across Asia, the Americas, and Europe, with a total mileage exceeding 400 kilometers. Through its advanced technology, outstanding quality, and remarkable speed, POWERCHINA has significantly accelerated local economic and social development and contributed to the construction of the BRI.
2023 marks the 10th anniversary of both the BRI and the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia. This Sept 7, the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway officially opened to traffic.
This signifies Indonesia's entry into the era of High-speed rail and represents a significant milestone in the joint construction of the BRI between the two countries.
Since construction on the High-speed railway began, the heads of the two countries have attached great importance to the project. POWERCHINA undertook construction on the 85.05-kilometer underground section and the 308.3 km track-laying section of the railway.
The railway has reduced the travel time from Jakarta to Bandung from over three hours to 40 minutes, greatly improving local transportation and driving local economic and social development.
In addition to the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway, POWERCHINA has also participated in the construction of Africa's first High-speed railway, the Tangier-Casablanca High-speed Railway, in Morocco. The railway, with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, significantly reduces the travel time between the cities from five hours to just two hours. It has even been featured on the country's stamps as a national symbol.
On Dec 3, 2021, amid eager anticipation from both the Chinese and Lao peoples, the China-Laos Railway was completed and opened to traffic. It has fully connected the transportation route from Kunming, China to Vientiane, Laos, enabling direct transport and same-day arrival, fulfilling a long-standing aspiration.
To date, the China-Laos Railway has transported over 16.4 million passengers and 21 million metric tons of freight.
POWERCHINA's achievements in the field of rail transportation also can be seen in countries such as Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, and others.
In response to the various challenges and difficulties encountered in each project, POWERCHINA continuously improves its technologies. The high-quality handover of these projects has earned POWERCHINA recognition and gratitude from local governments and project owners, further expanding the influence of its brand.
During the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway project, POWERCHINA actively integrated into the local community, shouldering social responsibilities. It provided around 100,000 job opportunities for locals and assisted in repairing drainage channels and restoring disaster-affected road sections in villages affected by heavy rainfall.
Moreover, POWERCHINA has adhered to "green construction" by reducing dust and noise, implementing wastewater treatment, and concurrently greening the area during construction to minimize the impact on the local environment.
In Vang Vieng, an international tourist town in Laos, POWERCHINA built the largest sewage treatment station along the China-Laos Railway. For the laying of turf, common local grasses and shrubs were chosen for their rapid growth and strong regenerative abilities, so they can quickly blend into the surrounding vegetation.
