The "Social Responsibility Report of Chinese-invested Power Enterprises in Laos (2023)" is unveiled in Luang Prabang, Laos.
The "Social Responsibility Report of Chinese-invested Power Enterprises in Laos (2023)" was unveiled in Luang Prabang, Laos, on Oct 27, the first social responsibility achievement report released since the establishment of the Lao Association of Chinese-invested Power Enterprises.
During the launch ceremony, Zhang Sheping, consul general of the Chinese Consulate General in Luang Prabang, stated that the achievements showcased today by Chinese-invested power enterprises in Laos demonstrate the fruitful results of practical cooperation between China and Laos, and that the future of mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Laos holds even greater promise.
Thongphat Inthavong, deputy minister of Energy and Mines of Laos, said that Laos has been experiencing rapid development in clean electric power, achieving a national electrification rate of over 95 percent. As the construction of hydropower stations accelerates and new energy sources like photovoltaic and wind power are developed, Laos' power grid continues to improve, ensuring nationwide electricity supply. Electricity exports have increased notably as well.
Thongphat attributed these achievements to the close collaboration in power and energy between China and Laos, as well as Laos' active engagement in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The report includes both Chinese and English, providing insights in various areas, including introductions to each member enterprise of the association and key projects, sustainable development efforts, economic responsibilities, ecological conservation, cultural exchange, social welfare, and more. It describes how Chinese-invested power enterprises in Laos are actively contributing to the country's national development through the construction of various projects.
The Lao Association of Chinese-invested Power Enterprises was officially established in July 2022 and consists of 14 power generation enterprises registered in Laos, such as POWERCHINA, China International Water & Electric Corp, China Southern Power Grid. As of now, these enterprises have a total installed capacity of 2,316 MW in operation, accounting for over 40 percent of Laos' national grid installed capacity.
