A 1,600-metric-ton gantry crane, a marine facility for the King Salman International Complex project under the EPC general contracting by POWERCHINA, was successfully placed in an elevated position on Nov 30 in Saudi Arabia.

This marks the completion of the assembly and lifting of the giant gantry crane with the world's largest lifting height and the second-highest lifting capacity.

As a crucial component of Saudi Arabia's "2030 Vision," the project spans an area of 11.25 square kilometers and, upon completion, will be the world's largest mega-shipyard.

According to the design requirements, the project site is equipped with one 1,600-ton gantry crane and three 500-ton gantry cranes, with a combined lifting capacity of 2,100 tons.

It is a 1,600-ton single main beam, large-tonnage, large-span gantry crane, mainly composed of a gantry structure, upper and lower trolleys, a crane operation mechanism, electrical equipment, and a maintenance arm rotating crane. Its net lifting height is 113.5 meters, the highest in the world, and its lifting capacity of 1,600 tons is the second highest in the world.

Since the initiation of lifting work on Nov 5, POWERCHINA has overcome significant construction difficulties, high technical complexity, and adverse weather conditions. After 26 days, the gantry crane was successfully lifted into place.

The lifting of the giant gantry crane has increased the confidence and determination of POWERCHINA to achieve its contractual goals on schedule.
