The Telekosang Hydro Project.
The upstream cascade hydroelectric power plant of the Telekosang Hydro Project, constructed by POWERCHINA, was officially put into commercial operation on Dec 25, after seven days of stable trial operation and debugging. It achieved the power generation target six days ahead of schedule.
The Telekosang Hydro Project is located in Tenom, Sabah, Malaysia and is developed in two cascades. The upstream hydroelectric power plant has an installed capacity of 16 megawatts, while the downstream one has an installed capacity of 24 megawatts and achieved power generation on Feb 15, 2023.
It is Malaysia's first hydroelectric station to utilize open-channel diversion for power generation, with an annual electricity output of approximately 240 million kilowatt-hours.
The station will effectively alleviate the power supply shortage in Sabah, providing stable and clean power support for local economic and social development.
During construction, POWERCHINA overcame unforeseen factors such as landslides damaging transmission lines. Despite these challenges, it maintained confidence, proactively planned, and leveraged its technical expertise and strength in hydroelectric construction.
The early completion and commissioning have not only created benefits for the project owner but also contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of Malaysia.
