The Uzbekistan government held a grand celebration for the commissioning of this year's new power plants in the capital city of Tashkent on Dec 27. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, president of Uzbekistan, delivered a speech at the ceremony. Chen Yunpeng, deputy general manager of POWERCHINA, was invited to attend.
The Zarafshan Wind Farm Project in Uzbekistan, undertaken by POWERCHINA, was the only wind power project featured in the celebration. The Uzbek government set up a branch venue at the project site. The government officials from the Navoi region, where the project is located, project owners, and POWERCHINA representatives participated in the celebration through video link at the branch venue.
President Mirziyoyev expressed his pleasure at attending the celebration in his speech, and said that the commissioning of the new power plants has greatly alleviated the country's electricity shortage in winter.
During the ceremony, he also thanked POWERCHINA, recognizing its efforts to overcome challenges and deliver on its commitment to generate the first grid-connected power before the end of the year.
He emphasized that the Zarafshan Wind Farm Project is the first of its kind to be implemented after the initiation of Uzbekistan's national policy reform in the field of new energy. He highlighted its groundbreaking role in propelling Uzbekistan into a new era of renewable energy strategies.
After the celebration, Chen engaged in in-depth discussions with the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan and senior executives from Masdar at the main venue. Local media conducted interviews and reported on the event, with the project leader of the Zarafshan Wind Farm Project providing details to the media about the project's construction and operation.
Representatives of the Zarafshan Wind Farm Project also made an appearance at the celebration, once again highlighting the Uzbek government's keen interest in the project and its strong societal impact. This showcase also demonstrated the company's top-notch project execution capabilities and contractual integrity, further enhancing POWERCHINA's visibility and reputation in Uzbekistan and the Central Asian market.
