The 18th school in Babylon Province, Iraq, built by POWERCHINA, was successfully handed over on Jan 3, 73 days ahead of the original schedule. This marks the first handover of a school since the commencement of the school project in Babylon Province.
The Iraq Demonstration Schools Project is currently the government's top priority and most important initiative and is the largest ongoing livelihood project in Iraq.
POWERCHINA is responsible for building the perimeter walls of 189 schools, along with the buildings within the walls, providing water, electricity, heating, and decorative finishes, connecting to municipal utilities, building teaching facilities, public bathrooms, and guard rooms, and more. The total construction area amounts to 558,900 square meters.
The 18th school handed over in this acceptance process falls under the category 12B (primary school). It has a total construction area of 2,005.79 square meters and is a two-story reinforced concrete frame structure with a courtyard, serving as a fully functional building.
The main construction components include teaching facilities, public bathrooms, guard rooms, and more. Upon completion, the school is designed to accommodate 500 students at once.
So far, two schools have been successfully handed over in the projects undertaken by POWERCHINA. The other is the 19th school, handed over on Oct 25, 2023, which is the first school handed over among all 679 demonstration schools. The remaining schools are currently being built and are scheduled to be completed and handed over by the end of 2024.
