Kandia Camara and Abdoul Salam Bello inspect the Abobo rainwater drainage project.

Kandia Camara, president of the Senate of Côte d'Ivoire and mayor of Abobo, together and Abdoul Salam Bello, executive director of World Bank Group, jointly inspected the Abobo rainwater drainage project constructed by POWERCHINA on Feb 6.

Camara said that as the most densely populated municipality in the economic capital of Abidjan and the country as a whole, Abobo is in urgent need of various types of infrastructure, especially drainage facilities.

In the past, local residents suffered severely from flooding during the rainy season. However, since the completion of the main project, residents along the project route are no longer affected by floods.

He expressed heartfelt thanks to the World Bank and POWERCHINA.

Bello also emphasized the World Bank's satisfaction that the project is helping local people.

The project mainly included building 7.7 kilometers of rainwater drainage. Since work on the project commenced, POWERCHINA has overcome numerous challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and flooding during the rainy season, and completed the main structure ahead of schedule.

The drainage system has significantly enhanced local flood resistance, ensuring that the 280,000 residents along the route were spared from flooding for the first time when the rainy season arrived.

As a result, POWERCHINA has received high praise from the World Bank, the owner – the Ivorian government, and the supervisory team from France.
