Kenyan president William Samoei Ruto visited Maragua town in Kenya to inspect the Maragua Water Supply and Irrigation Project, undertaken by POWERCHINA, and learned a detailed introduction of the project. He highly praised its successful completion and commended the achievements made during its construction.

The project mainly consists of three parts: a dam, water supply pipelines, and a water treatment plant. The water treatment plant features a daily processing capacity of 8,000 cubic meters, and is connected to a total length of 18.3 kilometers of water supply pipelines.

As an important livelihood project, it has solved the drinking-water accessibility problem for 200,000 households in the surrounding areas of Maragua.

The president expressed that this project is a crucial strategic initiative for Kenya to move away from rain-fed agriculture. It effectively ensures livestock rearing, irrigation, and that local residents have sufficient clean water for daily life.

The project was completed and handed over on January 15, 2023, and has been operating smoothly for the last year. During the construction period, POWERCHINA provided jobs for local people and built a community hospital in the town. As a result, they received four letters of appreciation from the Kenyan Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.
