Aleksandar Vucic, Serbian president, delivers a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Serbian National Stadium, to be constructed by POWERCHINA, was held on May 1, coinciding with International Labor Day. Aleksandar Vucic, Serbian president, Li Ming, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, and Chen Guanfu, chairman of POWERCHINA International Co, attended the event.
In his speech, president Vucic expressed his vision and expectations for the project. He stated that in two and a half years, Serbia will have one of the most beautiful stadiums in Europe and even the world. He thanked POWERCHINA for its consistent and strong support in Serbia's development, and looks forward to completing this "great project" together with Chinese friends.
Ambassador Li expressed his gratitude to President Vucic and the Serbian government for their trust in Chinese enterprises, as well as their trust in POWERCHINA to construct the Serbian National Stadium and the 2027 Expo Exhibition Center.
After the ceremony, Chen told the media that POWERCHINA will be committed to guaranteeing that the stadium is completed on schedule.
The Serbian National Stadium and Expo Exhibition Center projects are major priority development projects for Serbia, and both will be located in the southwestern part of Belgrade. Once completed, the national stadium will be capable of hosting World Cup and European Championship-level football matches, thus stimulating economic development in areas in its vicinity.
The exhibition center will be one of the largest international trade fair venues in Southeast Europe, and will host the Belgrade Expo 2027. Once completed, it will become a landmark in Belgrade that is capable of accommodating nearly 100,000 visitors. Both projects are set to enhance the city's image and promote local economic and social development.
