The NR4 National Road upgrade and maintenance project in Cambodia, built by POWERCHINA, passed inspection and received an acceptance certificate from the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport on May 6. The project has now officially entered the warranty period.
The NR4 National Road upgrade and maintenance project involves the route from Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, to Sihanoukville, the country's largest port. This project is the first World Bank-funded project signed onto by POWERCHINA in the Cambodian market.
The project spans a total length of 40.3 kilometers, with 37.7 kilometers of road paving. Construction work mainly includes the upgrading, renovation, and maintenance of the existing road.
The section of the road connects Cambodia's densely populated and agriculturally rich central plain with the western coastal region, reducing travel time from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville from six hours to four.
The project will benefit 2.3 million people by making travel more convenient. The improvement of traffic conditions in southwestern Cambodia will strengthen economic ties between southwestern provinces and the capital as well as the largest port city, and make the transportation of agricultural and sideline products and port goods in the region easier, thereby promoting regional economic development.
