The building at its original site.
The building is slid to the new site.
Within the construction area of a railway station along the E75 railway in Poland, an ancient building with a history of nearly 160 years was successfully protected and relocated to its designated position after being slid by POWERCHINA on May 7.
This building is a single-story, brick-and-stone structure with an enlarged foundation and a pointed roof. It was constructed by the Russian Railway Association in 1865 during the construction of the railway line from St. Petersburg to Warsaw. The building's foundation was reinforced with three steel rail hoops bearing the emblem of the Russian Railway Association. Throughout the reign of the Czars and during both World Wars, it served as a warehouse for storing chemicals and an important railway transportation hub.
According to the reconstruction design plan for the station area under the E75 project contract, the building hindered the construction of the new railway line. Poland's Monument Protection Act, enacted by the government in 2003, stipulates that historical relics exceeding 100 years should be protected under the guidance of the Monument Protection Bureau.
To expedite construction, POWERCHINA negotiated with the local Monument Protection Bureau several times and ultimately came to an agreement to relocate the building.
Once the new position was determined, POWERCHINA carried out preparatory work on the building, such as reinforcement, foundation treatment, and track laying. As staff from the bureau and local citizens watched, POWERCHINA's staff used two hydraulic jacks and pre-installed tracks to successfully move the historic building to its new designated location.
