The 18th Chinese medical team aiding Lesotho was invited to the site of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project by the POWERCHINA Lesotho Polihali Dam Joint Venture for a free clinic on May 23. The team provided medical check-ups and health consultations for 350 Chinese and foreign employees, owners, supervisors and villagers from surrounding communities facing health problems. Additionally, they donated living supplies and common medicines to the villagers.

The Lesotho Highlands Water Project, being built by the POWERCHINA Lesotho Polihali Dam Joint Venture, is the largest of its kind between Lesotho and South Africa. It will channel the abundant water resources from the mountainous areas of Lesotho to South Africa, solving local water problems and promoting the development of hydropower in Lesotho, thus benefiting the people of both countries.

The Chinese medical team, equipped with modern medical devices, dispatched eight specialized medical professionals specializing in internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, acupuncture, radiology, and other fields. They conducted detailed assessments of all employees' clinical symptoms, daily routines, and diets, providing personalized health recommendations and distributing medications for free.

The project site is 260 kilometers from the capital, where medical facilities are limited, and accessing medical care is a common challenge for surrounding villagers. Therefore, the medical team and POWERCHINA coordinated closely, informing the chiefs and residents of nearby villages about the free clinic event in advance. On the day of the clinic, transportation was provided for villagers urgently needing medical attention, with dedicated personnel responsible for pickups and drop-offs. After the clinic, living supplies were donated to impoverished residents attending the event.

The free clinic was warmly welcomed and strongly supported by the local government and community chiefs. The chiefs expressed gratitude to POWERCHINA for providing medical services to remote communities, and especially for offering transportation to the clinic and distributing food packages.
