The commissioning ceremony for the Piarco International Airport Solar Park Project, the first centralized photovoltaic project undertaken by POWERCHINA in Trinidad and Tobago, was held on July 30, marking the official commencement of the project's operations.

The agreement for the solar park project was signed on July 25, 2022. The project owner is the Trinidad and Tobago Airport Authority, with funding from the European Union. Located at Piarco International Airport, it involves the construction of a 518.84-kilowatt solar photovoltaic power station, including design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

This project is funded by the Global Climate Change Alliance and represents POWERCHINA’s second new energy project in the Caribbean English-speaking region, reflecting an important initiative in the Caribbean to pursue the small-scale but high-quality development of new energy.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, the EU Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago stated that the commissioning of the solar park project will help Trinidad and Tobago meet its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 15 percent by 2030. He praised POWERCHINA for completing the project on time and thanked everybody involved.

The Piarco International Airport Solar Park Project will generate at least 767,034 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 421,102 kilograms per year.
