POWERCHINA successfully connects first biomass power project in Asia-Pacific to grid

Updated: August 07,2024

POWERCHINA recently connected its first biomass power project in the Asia-Pacific region – the 12-megawatt biomass power plant in Bangka, Indonesia – to the grid, marking the official start of commercial operations.

The project adopted a reciprocating-vibrating grate system and XLC-type flue gas treatment with high-efficiency electrostatic precipitators. Despite challenges such as low construction efficiency during the rainy season and limited mechanical resources, POWERCHINA worked closely with the owner to address various issues, including late cable deliveries, land acquisition for external lines, government water source renovations and boiler equipment certification. These efforts ensured the project's safe, high-quality, and efficient delivery.

During construction, the project created around 230 jobs for the surrounding areas, significantly contributing to local employment and earning support and praise from the local government.

The project will generate over 72,000 MW of green electricity annually. This will help promote clean energy development, reduce energy costs, and improve social well-being in Indonesia.
