The China-aided Luang Prabang Hospital upgrading and renovation project in Laos, built by POWERCHINA, was officially handed over on Aug 16, marking the successful completion of this important project and bringing enhanced medical services to the Lao people.

Since its original construction with Chinese assistance in the early 2000s, Luang Prabang Hospital has been a crucial pillar of healthcare in the region. This recent upgrade and renovation project included the construction of key facilities such as new surgical and cardiovascular science buildings, Chinese expert apartments, a wastewater treatment plant, a firewater tank and a fire pump house. The project also involved comprehensive repairs to the hospital’s existing buildings and outdoor facilities, along with the provision of essential medical equipment.

The new construction covers an area of 5,643.04 square meters, with repairs covering 8,130 square meters. The project began on September 7, 2022 and successfully passed its final inspection on July 18, 2024.

During the construction process, POWERCHINA actively implemented localized management by hiring Lao employees to participate in project management, thereby providing numerous employment opportunities and earning a strong reputation locally.

The upgrading and renovation of Luang Prabang Hospital will further promote the development of the Lao healthcare system, enhancing local healthcare standards and medical treatment capabilities and advancing traditional Lao medicine.

The completed hospital is set to become a medical hub of northern Laos, forming a dual medical network with the Mahosot Hospital in the country's capital of Vientiane. This will better serve both the Lao people and international tourists, continually improving local livelihoods.
