Hong Kong youth delegation visits the Shelek Wind Farm in Kazakhstan on Aug 19.
A Hong Kong delegation from the Wong Tai Sin Overseas Youth Programme, led by the Chinese Consulate General in Almaty, Kazakhstan, visited the Shelek Wind Farm, a project under POWERCHINA, on Aug 19.
During the visit, Shelek Wind Farm staff provided an overview of the principles of wind power generation, the operational model of the wind farm, and the equipment and technical parameters.
The Hong Kong youth admired the Shelek Wind Farm, noting its significance as a landmark project in the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Kazakhstan. This visit gave them a deeper understanding of wind power generation.
The Shelek Wind Power project is located in Almaty, in Southeast Kazakhstan. It includes 24 wind turbines and has a total installed capacity of 60 megawatts. Construction began on June 27, 2019, and full grid-connected power generation was reached in July 2022.
As the first Central Asia new energy project invested in by POWERCHINA, the Shelek Wind Power project is a symbol of high-quality cooperation between China and Kazakhstan under the Belt and Road Initiative. It has been included in the list of key projects for China-Kazakhstan production cooperation.
