The Sao Paulo Metro Line 2 project, undertaken by POWERCHINA, was recently awarded Brazil's Best and Largest Works Award 2024. This award is a national-level honor in the Brazilian construction industry, the highest accolade in the engineering field, and has significant industry influence.

The project is Brazil's latest and largest public transportation system. It is also POWERCHINA's first rail transit project in the Americas and its first government-funded project in the Brazilian market.

Located in the state of Sao Paulo, the project aims to extend the existing Line 2 from Vila Madalena Station in the west to Penha Station in the east. It will involve three vertical shafts, four underground tunnels, five metro stations, and one transportation interchange center.

POWERCHINA is responsible for constructing sections 3, 4, and 5. Upon completion, the number of stations will expand from 14 to 24, with an expected daily passenger flow of over 800,000.

This project will significantly improve Sao Paulo's infrastructure and public transportation system, reducing carbon emissions, alleviating traffic congestion, enhancing regional connectivity and economic development, and promoting sustainable urban development.

All excavation work for the stations, shafts, and station tunnels has been completed. The parking tunnel is 65 percent finished, and the single-line tunnel is progressing at 75 percent.
