Updated: September 26,2024

POWERCHINA participated in the 2024 Annual Meeting of Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD) and the 5th International Symposium on Dam Safety, in Yichang, a city in Central China's Hubei province, on Sept 25.

The meeting was jointly organized by the CHINCOLD and the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD). Chen Guanfu, chairman of POWERCHINA International Group Co, attended the meeting, where he chaired the 17th Round Table Forum on the Sustainable Development of Dams & Hydropower and delivered a keynote report.

Chen discussed the significance of renewable energy multi-energy complementarity systems, emphasizing the crucial role of pumped storage technology in maintaining grid stability. He predicted that the global energy internet and artificial intelligence will profoundly reshape the energy landscape and support sustainable development.

The forum featured presentations from ten experts on topics related to the development of water resources and hydropower, covering critical issues such as the impact of hydropower stations on energy transition and the integration of small-scale hydropower with irrigation infrastructure, thus providing a platform for extensive exchange and collaboration, as well as important references and learning values for global water cooperation and sustainable development.

Since 2009, with support from the ICOLD, the CHINCOLD has achieved success in sharing experience among developing countries, successfully hosting 17 round table forums and inviting high-level representatives from regions like Africa and Southeast Asia.

During the meeting, Chen engaged in in-depth discussions with leaders from various national dam committees and power companies regarding future project cooperation.
