Constructed by POWERCHINA, six schools under the Iraq Demonstration Schools Project (Basra Province) – schools no 5, 6, 21, 29, 31, and 46 – were recently open to students. The local government showed its strong support by holding a grand opening ceremony at school no 31.
During the ceremony, the head of the Basra Education Bureau praised the school's overall design, construction quality, and progress, expressed gratitude to all contributors, and warmly referred to these modern, multifunctional, high-quality schools as "Chinese schools". POWERCHINA attended the event, bringing a variety of school supplies, including books, stationery, backpacks, and sports items, to extend its best wishes to the students and highlight POWERCHINA's commitment to social responsibility.
After the opening, teachers and students excitedly moved into the new classrooms, and students happily ran and played out on the playground. "Compared to the old school, the new facilities are spacious, well-equipped, and will better support children's education needs, fulfilling their hopes for a brighter future," remarked a teacher.
POWERCHINA has completed construction on 70 of the 86 schools, with 28 already certified for handover. The remaining schools are in the final stages of decoration and finishing. Once all schools are handed over, POWERCHINA will provide learning spaces for over 40,000 local students, significantly improving local educational facilities and conditions.
