On November 15th, the "Lighting Up a Greener Zambia – Zambia Scenario-based Smart PV & BESS Summit 2024", jointly hosted by LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei, was successfully held in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. The event was graced by Mr. Peter Mumba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Zambia, and Mr. Albert Halwampa, Director General of the Zambia Development Agency, who both delivered keynote speeches.
The summit featured in-depth exchanges and discussions among experts from ZESCO Limited, LONGi, PowerChina, Huawei, and the First National Bank of Zambia. Topics covered included Zambia's national net-metering plan, new crystalline silicon modules based on HPBC2.0 technology, multi-scenario applications of PV & BESS solutions, FusionSolar intelligent solutions, and green financing. These discussions sparked lively debates among the on-site participants.
Mr. Albert Halwampa highlighted that PowerChina, LONGi, and Huawei possess globally leading technological advantages in their respective fields. The convergence of these strengths is set to provide substantial support for Zambia's green energy future. He further emphasized that the Zambian government remains committed to optimizing policies and creating a favorable business environment, welcoming Chinese enterprises with advanced technology and rich experience to contribute to Zambia's new energy development. During the event, LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei signed a cooperation framework agreement, signaling their commitment to actively collaborate in the new energy sector in Zambia. This partnership reflects the determination and strength of Chinese enterprises in "going global" together.
The summit, meticulously organized by LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei, attracted over 150 representatives from the Zambian government, the Zambian Enterprise Association, and local mainstream media. The conference hall was packed, with a lively atmosphere of discussion and collaboration. This event injected fresh momentum into advancing practical cooperation on multi-scenario intelligent photovoltaic-storage projects in Zambia.
Addressing Zambia's power development goals, Mr. Peter Mumba emphasized that the country aims to achieve a 100% national electricity access rate by 2030. Of this, 44% of the population will be connected to the grid, while 56% will gain electricity access through off-grid photovoltaic solutions. Therefore, solar and energy storage technologies are crucial for meeting Zambia's development targets. The government has also introduced various incentives, such as tax exemptions, to attract investors in the solar energy sector.
During the summit, LONGi, PowerChina, and Huawei reiterated their commitment to working collaboratively to deliver the best solutions for Zambia. Guided by the mission of "Making the best of solar energy to build a green world," LONGi aims to leverage its cutting-edge technology and best-in-class products to support Zambia's energy transition. Together with other Chinese enterprises, LONGi is dedicated to advancing Zambia's journey toward a greener and more sustainable future.
