The Lighting Up a Greener Zambia – Zambia Scenario-based Smart PV (photovoltaic) & BESS (battery energy storage system) Summit 2024, co-hosted by POWERCHINA, Huawei, and LONGi Green Energy Technology Co (LONGi), was held on Nov 15 in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. The event attracted over 150 representatives from the Zambian government, associations, and businesses.

Over the past 25 years, POWERCHINA has established a strong presence in Zambia, delivering nearly 50 landmark projects and "small-yet-smart" initiatives, and is committed to utilizing smart PV and energy storage technologies to support Zambia's sustainable development goals. POWERCHINA has built power plants with a total installed capacity of 1,573 megawatts, accounting for 45 percent of Zambia's total installed capacity, making it the largest Chinese contractor in the country.

Albert Halwampa, director general of the Zambia Development Agency, highlighted that POWERCHINA, Huawei, and LONGi possess globally leading technological advantages in their respective fields. The convergence of these strengths will provide substantial support for Zambia's green energy future.

He further emphasized that the Zambian government remains committed to optimizing policies and creating a favorable business environment, welcoming Chinese enterprises with advanced technology and rich experience to contribute to Zambia's new energy development.

Peter Mumba, permanent secretary of Zambia's Ministry of Energy, emphasized that solar and energy storage technologies are crucial for meeting the country's development targets. The government has also introduced various incentives, such as tax exemptions, to attract investors in the solar energy sector.

During the project signing session, POWERCHINA, Huawei, and LONGi signed a framework agreement for future collaboration and pledged to deepen their cooperation in Zambia's renewable energy sector.
