As of Nov 29, the third-phase expansion project of the Hwange Power Station in Zimbabwe, built by POWERCHINA, achieved a cumulative power generation exceeding 5 billion kilowatt-hours in 2024, with 7,471.59 utilization hours recorded for the units.

Since 2024, the El Nino phenomenon has caused prolonged low water levels at the country's Kariba Hydropower Station, a major domestic power source, reducing its generation capacity to less than 30 percent of normal levels. The Hwange Power Station provides more than 50 percent of Zimbabwe's power supply, and has been critical in preventing widespread power outages and maintaining socioeconomic stability in the country.

In response, POWERCHINA prioritized safety, strengthened equipment operation management, conducted thorough inspections to address potential hazards, and fine-tuned operating parameters for the two units. These measures ensured long-term stable operation, with monthly generation records consistently hitting new highs.
